1. AI Regulations around the World - 2026
In March of 2023, the Government at the time published its framework for “A pro-innovation approach to AI regulation”. Whilst promising to provide regulators with the “skills and tools they need to address the risks and opportunities of AI”, they also announced a deadline of April 30 for these regulators to publish their own approaches to AI management, which many of them did, including the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA), the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO), and the Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC). Additionally, the State Administration for Market Regulation and the Standardisation Administration of China jointly released three national standards aimed at enhancing the security and governance of generative AI, standards which officially took effect on November 1, 2025. In Australia, the government has highlighted the application of existing regulatory frameworks for AI to compensate for the current laws and policies

The AI Institute for Societal Decision Making (AI-SDM) develops AI to augment human decision-making in societal domains such as public health and disaster management that require complex, often life-saving decisions be made under uncertain, dynamic and resource-constrained circumstances, while also accounting for people’s perceptions of risk, trust and equity. Using data-driven recommendations via bandit and reinforcement learning algorithms, adaptive control trials, counterfactual reasoning and personalized interventions, we enable public health and emergency management organizations to identify effective and ethical policy decisions that are socially accepted.
